THE SANCTUARY'S LEGENDS
Many centuries ago, the people of Badia started building a
chapel on Col d'Anvi, a hill north of S. Leonard But, while carrying out
their plan, people kept getting wounded by wood thorns and white birds took
every blood-filled thorn, to S. Croce rock The people noticed it and began
following the bird's flight. And so they started building the chapel in that
very spot, a really beautiful place. They told the whole community.
This episode was considered exceptional and Heaven sent and everybody
agreed in building the chapel, where it stands today.
This is the most famous legend about S. Croce church.
Ottwin, earl of Lurn and Val Pusteria, travelled to the Holy Land
to pray. On his way back he fell in the hands of Arion and he got home together with
an arian priest, that did not believe in God. But soon after he started feeling repented,
and he went under S. Croce rock to repent and to ask pardon. He started building a chapel
in honor of Jesus Christ.
Ottwin's son went under S. Croce rock to pray and meditate
for Jesus Christ Passion Soon after he gave his castle "Castel Badia" as a gift
to some Benedictine sisters and he became the priest of Bressanone.
